Fentanyl-laced heroin dealer charged with death of customer FREE TO GO under NJ Bail Reform

Dealer charged in Death...

Accused heroin dealer who sold fentanyl-laced heroin to a 26-year-old Burlington County woman who later died has now been charged with homicide…and released by a judge under the NJ Bail Reform Act.

Shannon McGuigan, 32, of Pemberton Township, was charged with strict liability homicide for a drug related death involving a 26-year-old woman who was found dead May 30, 2017.

McGuigan is accused of selling the woman fentanyl-laced heroin which lead to her death.

Despite objections from the prosecutor, McGuigan was released and FREE TO GO under NJ Bail Reform after the Arnold Foundation’s “Pretrial Risk Assessment” tool determined she was not a danger to the community or a flight risk and therefore should not be subject to any accountable release – just a “promise” to appear.

The release is yet another example of the thousands of unaccountable and FREE TO GO pretrial releases of those criminally charged under the NJ Bail Reform Act.

Suspected dealer’s fentanyl-laced heroin killed 26-year-old customer

NJ.com – June 4 2018

A dealer accused of selling fentanyl-laced heroin that killed a customer last year was charged with homicide over the weekend.

Shannon McGuigan, 32, of Pemberton Township, was charged with strict liability homicide for drug-induced death, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance, Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina announced.

A relative of a 26-year-old Pemberton Township woman found her dead on the morning of May 30, 2017, the prosecutor’s statement said. The county medical examiner determined that the woman died from heroin and fentanyl toxicity.

Detectives on the case learned that the woman bought drugs from McGuigan not long before her death.

Pemberton Township police arrested McGuigan Friday on the drug-induced charge and found her with cocaine, leading to a second drug possession charge, the office said.

McGuigan was not detained during a hearing Saturday in Superior Court in Mount Holly.
