K-9 busts bicycling burglar in West Deptford, cops say

(reported by NJ.com – June 8 2017)

Police charged a township man with burglary, theft and resisting arrest following two home burglaries early Wednesday.

In both cases, the accused intruder entered through unlocked doors, police said.

Officers responded to Mifflin Street around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday for a report of a burglary to a home. A resident told police he awoke to find a man in his house.

He identified the man as 36-year-old Carlos M. Rivera Jr. He said he pushed Rivera out of the house, called police, then discovered that a cellphone was missing. The burglar apparently entered through an unlocked door, police said.

Another burglary was reported around 3:30 a.m. a short distance away on Center Street. A resident awoke to find a man riffling through a purse. The burglar fled on a bicycle.

Entry was once again made through an unlocked door and a cellphone, laptop and cash were reported stolen. The description of the suspect was similar to that from the first incident, police said.

Three hours later, Patrolman A.J. Greenwald spotted a man matching Rivera’s description riding a bike on Red Bank Avenue near Atkins Avenue.
