(reported by NJ.com – July 27 2017)

An 18-year-old Trenton man is facing weapons charges after police say they caught him with a loaded gun leaving a city pool.

Street Crimes Unit detectives were patrolling in the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and West Ingham Avenue around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday when they saw a group of three men walking from the Martin Luther King Jr. pool inside the park, police said.

Police say one of the men, later identified as Byron Heard, became startled after noticing the officers and grabbed his waist. He broke away from the group and tried to go inside a deli when the detectives stopped him, police said.

Heard was found with a loaded gun and a check of the serial number showed it was reported stolen from Old Bridge, police said.

Heard faces weapons and receiving stolen property charges.
