Farmington, NM – Foster mom charged in horrendous child abuse case FREE TO GO under NM Bail Reform

Hope Graciano

Hope Graciano, of Farmington, is a foster mother who has been arrested in an awful case of child abuse involving an 11-year-old boy.

Graciano is charged with allegedly beating an 11-year-old foster child with a bed frame because he didn’t get a math question right. The boy was left with a skull fracture, and two black eyes so swollen he couldn’t even see out of them.

After the boy mouthed the words “help me” to a police officer at an area hospital, an investigation turned up even more evidence of abuse.

Police discovered the boy was urinating in boxes in his room because he was locked inside.

The boy says when his little sister was in Graciano’s care she pooped her pants and Graciano made her eat it. She then force fed the boy jalapenos and when he threw them up she made him eat his vomit.  Investigators also found evidence of starvation.

Graciano was released and FREE TO GO after her 1st appearance under NM Bail Reform after the Arnold Foundation’s “Pretrial Risk Assessment” tool determined that she was not a danger to the community or a flight risk and therefore should not be subject to any accountable release – just a “promise” to appear.

Graciano was released on an “unsecured bond” – which is essentially a fancy word for “Get Out of Jail Free.”

The release is the result of newly enacted Supreme Court guidelines orchestrated by Chief Justice Daniels that virtually eliminates accountable pretrial release and bail.
