Paterson man charged in hit-and-run of county sheriff officer

A Paterson man was arrested for allegedly hitting a Passaic County Sheriff’s officer with his car and fleeing the scene, authorities announced on Thursday.

Alexander Ramos, 36, was charged with endangering an injured victim and hindering apprehension, along with several motor-vehicle offenses, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.

Ramos is accused of hitting Officer Kenny Ramos with his car around 10:24 p.m. on Monday in the area of Main Street and Grand Avenue in Paterson as the county employee was going to work, the prosecutor’s office stated. Alexander Ramos then allegedly fled the scene once he realized he hit the officer. 

Kenny Ramos was transported to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center with bodily injuries. 

Alexander Ramos was detained at Passaic County Jail, according to the prosecutor’s office.
