Man accused of dropping infant wanted for cutting off GPS ankle monitor while out of jail

(reported by Daily Record – May 19 2017)

A former Jefferson resident who is charged with endangering the welfare of his child by dropping the infant is wanted by authorities after he allegedly cut off a GPS ankle bracelet he was ordered to wear while on pretrial release.

A Superior Court judge in Morristown on Wednesday issued a warrant for the arrest of Brendon Miller, 25, now of Pine Bush, N.Y. and formerly of the Lake Hopatcong section of Jefferson.

Miller was charged in April with endangering the welfare of his five-month old baby on Feb. 16 at what was then his home in Jefferson. Miller had allegedly not told police he dropped the baby in February but then later admitted the incident in a Facebook posting.

An assistant Morris County prosecutor had wanted Miller to be held – detained pretrial – while the charges were pending a trial or resolution but a Superior Court judge denied the state’s application for detention in April and Miller was released under conditions that included wearing a GPS ankle bracelet.

Court employees assigned to Superior Court’s pretrial services unit were alerted recently that the bracelet was cut. Though officials have spoken to Miller, he has not turned himself in so a warrant was issued. The rubberized bracelet, which acts as a homing device, sends a radio frequency signal containing location and other information to a receiver.
