Moving man stole handguns during move, cops say

(reported by NJ.com – June 26 2017)

A North Carolina man was arrested Saturday after police said he stole three handguns from a person who had hired him as a mover.

Jamil S. Hicks, 38, of Wilmington N.C., was in possession of stolen handguns when police found him inside a truck at a River Road address, according to Bogota Police Chief Chief Daniel Maye.

Hicks rifled through the property of a person who had hired him to help move, police told NorthJersey.com.

One of the guns was pulled out of Hicks’ waistband by officers when they attempted to speak with him, Maye said.

Police charged Hicks with unlawful possession of weapons and theft, the chief said.

“Even though we have a small town, things do happen and our officers are well trained,” Maye said in a statement. “This situation could have turned out badly, but our officers showed great restraint while dealing with an armed person.”
