Fair Lawn, NJ – Repeat offender under NJ Bail Reform crashes car in police chase

Jacob Gibbs, 20, was arrested after a police chase ended in a crash and a foot chase – just one week after Gibbs was released under NJ Bail Reform for burglarizing a Westwood home.

This is Gibbs third arrest this year – having already been released twice and FREE TO GO under NJ Bail Reform after the Arnold Foundation’s “Pretrial Risk Assessment” tool determined he was not a danger to the community or a flight risk and therefore should not be subject to any accountable release – just a “promise” to appear.

Gibbs has an extensive criminal history including aggravated assault and weapons possession in Teaneck in April 2015. A judge released him on those charges the next day.

In September, Gibbs was arrested for burglary and theft. Three days later, Gibbs was released under NJ Bail Reform.

On November 13, Gibbs was arrested for residential burglary – and again released.

NJ Bail Reform: Fair Lawn PD Nabs Repeat Offender, 20, In Car Chase, Crash

(reported by Jerry DeMarco of the Daily Voice – Nov 21 2017)

A Fair Lawn police chase ended before dawn Tuesday with a crash in Hackensack and the arrest of a Teaneck man who’d been freed by a judge last week after police caught him burglarizing a Westwood home, authorities said.

It was the third arrest in a little over two months for Jacob Gibbs — who, at only 20, has already amassed an adult rap sheet of offenses in various towns.

Gibbs and another occupant bailed out of a car stolen out of Teaneck after it crashed near the Coach House Diner on Route 4 around 3 a.m. Tuesday, responders said.

Gibbs was 18 when he was busted for aggravated assault and weapons possession in Teaneck in April 2015. A judge released him the next day. More arrests followed that year, including separate drug busts in Hackensack and Englewood.

This past Sept. 12, Gibbs was arrested in Hackensack on burglary and theft charges. A judge released him less than three days later.

Then, on Nov. 13, police summoned by an alert neighbor said they found another stolen car — also out of Teaneck — outside a Westwood home and Gibbs inside, rifling an upstairs bedroom dresser.
