Albuquerque, NM – Man charged with credit card “skimming” scheme fled to Texas now FREE TO GO under NM Bail Reform

Jose Dieguez-Pineda, 44

Jose Dieguez-Pineda, 44, was charged in March after an investigation discovered “skimming” devices installed on gas pumps that netted the thieves more that $10,000 from hundreds of residents in Albuquerque.

Dieguez-Pineda has been on the run since March – having fled to Houston, Texas. He was arrested and brought back to New Mexico – only to then be released and FREE TO GO by Judge Renee Torres under NM Bail Reform after the Arnold Foundation’s “Pretrial Risk Assessment” tool determined that he was not a danger to the community or a flight risk and therefore should not be subject to any accountable release – just a “promise” to appear.

The release is the result of newly enacted Supreme Court guidelines orchestrated by Chief Justice Daniels that virtually eliminates accountable pretrial release and bail.
