Union City, NJ – Man charged in brutal attack, slams victim on head FREE TO GO under NJ Bail Reform

Henry Perez

Henry Perez, 27, of Union City, was arrested for his involvement in a West New York assault in which the victim was brutally beaten and dropped on his head.

The charges against Perez include aggravated assault for his role in the assault. Perez was part of a group who beat and assaulted a man – eventually “slamming the victim on his head, causing a large laceration.”

Perez was later released and FREE TO GO under NJ Bail Reform after the Arnold Foundation’s “Pretrial Risk Assessment” tool determined that he was not a danger to the community or a flight risk and therefore should not be subject to any accountable release – just a “promise” to appear.

A 27-year-old Union City man has been charged with taking part in a West New York assault in which the victim was beaten and dropped on his head.

Henry Perez, of the 300 block of 47th Street, is charged with being one of four people who “continuously punched and kicked” the victim during the Saturday incident, the criminal complaint says.

The group eventually picked the man up, “slamming him on his head, causing a large laceration” on the top of his head, the complaint says, adding that he required medical attention.

Police officers, who were brought to the scene by a 911 call, said Perez appeared to be drunk or on drugs, according to the complaint.
