South Plainfield, NJ – Burglar arrested and released 7 hours later (despite immigration detainer) due to NJ Bail Reform arrested again for burglary after leaving pretrial release papers behind

Douglas Baudriz-Diaz, 39, was arrested after committing 2 home burglaries on the same day as his 1st arrest – then arrested again a few days later for yet another burglary.

How did he get caught? Well…after his 1st arrest on May 22 2017 @ 1:30 am, he allegedly burglarized another home that same night after being released 7 hours after he was booked into the Middlesex County Jail. This time Baudriz-Diaz left behind his intake papers and pretrial release papers at the homeowners residence. Baudriz-Diaz was later arrested on May 29 2017 by North Plainfield Police during yet another burglary in progress.

Did we mention Baudriz-Diaz had an Immigration Detainer?

Another “validated pretrial risk assessment” Failure.

Burglar Arrested Again

(Facebook Post by South Plainfield Police Department – May 30 2017)

A defendant who was arrested during a burglary in progress in South Plainfield was arrested again by the North Plainfield Police Department during another burglary in progress.

The defendant, Douglas Baudriz-Diaz, was arrested on May 22nd, 2017, at 1:30 AM, for committing a burglary on Palmer Avenue where a resident witnessed him breaking into a home. He was subsequently arrested, charged with burglary, and transported to the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center at 8:30 AM. Baudriz-Diaz was also being held on an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainer warrant due to his immigration status.

Unfortunately, Baudriz-Diaz was released at approximately 3:30 PM from the detention center on this same day due to the Bail Reform Act.

At 8:00 PM, a homeowner on West 8th Street discovered his residence was entered and items were removed. Left behind in the home were intake papers from the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center and Pre-Trial Release forms with the name of Douglas Baudriz-Diaz.

Baudriz-Diaz was again charged with another count of burglary and since he was not in custody, he was entered as a wanted person until he was arrested again by the North Plainfield Police Department for another burglary in progress on May 29th, 2017.

Baudriz-Diaz is a suspect in four other burglaries in South Plainfield. With the old bail guidelines, he would have been held in the MCACC with a bail between $10,000 – $50,000 due to the degree of his charges.
