San Francisco, CA – Six months in using “risk assessment tool” – a staggering 35% of criminal defendants failed to appear or committed a new crime

Preliminary data from the first six months implementation of the the Laura & John Arnold Foundation’s “Public Safety Assessment” (PSA) tool used in determining criminal defendant release decisions show that the system is failing – with 35% of those released on a “pinky promise” either failing to appear or committing a new crime.

The Laura & John Arnold Foundation’s self-proclaimed “validated & evidence-based” risk assessment tool has come under fire recently with a pending lawsuit in New Jersey over the murder of a Millville man due to New Jersey’s new bail reform.
