Quick police work ensures man doesn’t get far with stolen Jet Skis: authorities

(reported by NJ.com – June 27 2017)

A Union City man didn’t have two Jet Skis long enough to try them out.

Isaac Orengo, 34, was arrested roughly 10 minutes after the watercrafts were stolen, along with the trailer in which they were stored at a North Bergen parking lot early Saturday morning, North Bergen police said.

It turned out that the van Orengo used to steal the trailer was also stolen, police said, and he was charged with four counts of receiving stolen property and possession of burglary tools. He was issued a summons and is scheduled to appear in court on July 17.

The theft was report at 2:13 a.m. when the owner of one of the Jet Skis drove past the River Road lot and saw the trailer missing, the owner of the other Jet Ski said. Two North Bergen police officers on the road had just seen the Jet Skis pass them on Tonnelle Avenue and began searching in the area of 46th Street and Tonnelle Avenue, where it was last seen, police said.

Orengo was pulled over at 38th Street and Tonnelle Avenue and was arrested after being questioned by police. The Ford van he was driving was reported stolen from Liberty Avenue in North Bergen, police said.
