Cliffside Park Police Sergeant Chases Down Driver, Seizes 10 Pounds Of Pot

(reported by Jerry DeMarco of the Daily Voice – Apr 10 2017)

A Cliffside Park detective sergeant seized 10 pounds of marijuana from a Bronx driver he chased down nearly four blocks on foot following a routine traffic stop, authorities told Daily Voice on Monday.

Detective Sgt. Michael Giampietro stopped the Nissan Altima on Anderson Avenue at Dorincourt Road in Fort Lee on Sunday night for having tinted windows.

While speaking to the driver, 28-year-old Darling Read, he said, he “detected the odor of raw marijuana” coming from a garbage bag in the car.

Ordered out of vehicle, Read suddenly sprinted off, the sergeant said.

“Both Read and I sustained minor injuries” after he struggled briefly following a foot chase, Giampietro said.

Both were taken to Holy Name Medical Center in Teaneck and were released soon after, he said.

Police seized the pot and had the car impounded.
